Teach The Kids Don't Toss Em Aside

Posted on: March 30, 2008 8:56 am

It was Coach Gene Stallings who was a member of Coach Paul Bryant's team after the 1962 season who wanted to kick Joe Namath off the team for his drinking problems.
Then it was Coach Gene Stallings who wanted to "HELP" David Palmer and his drinking problems. David Palmer was arrested twice in four months for drunken driving charges.
I think the media, fans, and everyone is getting caught up with this idea that these young kids should be kicked off the team for their mistakes. These are 18, 19, etc. year olds. They're maturing and of course they're going to make mistakes. I think the whole thing should be about teaching and helping them make the right choices in life. Coaches and everyone shouldn't be so quick to give up on kids. Maybe the NCAA should be willing to give these kids an extra year or so of college football. Like a hardship year or something. So if a kid gets in trouble with the law or drugs, alcohol.. etc. Then he should be suspended from the team.. and everyone should be supportive and try everything they can to help him out. Then after a year suspension or whatever it takes to help them out and once they got everything in their life straight they should be able to play. I mean it's all about teaching and helping people out. And it pisses me off that everyone thinks you should give up on people.
